remember how i said i was going to start my period this week... i started tonight :( my health app had thursday as my start date so it's a bit annoying that i started today instead. i really want to go to bed but my tylenol hasn't kicked in yet T^T

i'm very much fighting the urge to get in bed and stare at my phone for a while. my head hurts and i feel sick and a bit dizzy, i really want to lay down, but without something to distract me from my pain it wouldn't be a very good experience... it's 2025, why have they still not invented a painkiller that works instantly? i would pay so much money for that. anyway, i know it would only raise my screentime by 2.5 hours if i were to go to bed and stare at my phone until midnight, but i'm afraid that since it's only been a few days any amount of allowing myself to be on my phone for too long will reverse the work i've already done to stay off of it :( plus in general i don't want to rely on it for things like that anymore.

i really need to just suck it up and go to the clinic and get prescribed a birth control that will stop my period. i hate doctors and taking pills, which is why i still haven't done it, but i hate the pain and dysphoria that comes with having a period even more. i hate pills so much that i actually stopped taking painkillers for my menstrual symptoms for a while, and now take powder instead of a pill. it has a horrendous medicinal aftertaste, but it's still better than trying to swallow a pill while i feel nauseous.

i'd really like to take a shower because i'll need one tomorrow anyway, but standing under hot water makes me incredibly dizzy and i've almost passed out many times from showering on my period. if my tylenol hasn't kicked in by the time i'm done writing this i might take one anyway just to sit under the water and relax; i did that last month and i felt completely fine by the time i got out. i'm hesitant to do that though because i'd like to go to bed soon and i'd have to wait for my hair to dry before i could. i'm so indecisive T^T

as mentioned in my main post today, i really hope starting doesn't erase the progress i've made with fixing my sleep schedule and getting up in the morning. i'm worried i'm also going to throw away my progress toward my phone addiction too because of pain or emotions ;3; i just need to remember that i'm doing this to better myself and my relationship with my phone / technology in general, and if i give up on it this early it won't be worth it!

okay, i think i'm going to take a shower now, i took my tylenol probably half an hour ago and it still hasn't kicked in, so shower it is. time to soak in scalding hot water like i'm a dead body in a lake :p

i know i said i'd make this post tomorrow, but i can't stop thinking about it even after attempting to distract myself, so i'm posting it tonight. fair warning that this post will include a lot of discussion on christianity, atheism, religious guilt, and homophobia and transphobia.

to be completely honest, one of the biggest things that contributed to me leaving behind my christian beliefs is constantly hearing things like "being transgender is an abomination" and "you can't be homosexual and a christian." as someone who identifies as nonbinary and gay, it's not very surprising these comments pushed me away from the faith. someone told me once that you can choose to be religious but you can't choose to be queer. if something i can't change about myself (and not for lack of trying) bars me from a relationship with god, why did i spend so long even trying? if god is real and truly hates queer people, why didn't he listen when i was twelve and begged him to make me cis and straight? i'm too scared to mention this to my mom. i'm too afraid of what she would say. she doesn't even know i'm not cis, and when she found out i was queer she asked me if it was because the youtubers i was watching made me "think it was okay." i was thirteen. and i'm scared that her opinion hasn't changed in all these years. if it hasn't, i don't want to know.

i've been deconstructing my beliefs for some time now. it started with not being sure if i believed in christianity, to not knowing if i believed in any religion, to now i'm not sure i even believe in a god at all. it's hard to admit that, harder than anything else. growing up, "atheist" was basically treated like a swear word. people who held atheistic beliefs were all but equivalized to demons. i'm hesitant to describe myself as an atheist, despite knowing i fit the description in a technical sense. it feels like a dirty word, something you shouldn't want to be labeled as. almost like transgender and gay were when i was twelve. history is doomed to repeat itself, i guess.

as mentioned, admitting to myself that i'm no longer a christian really helped relieve a lot of the religious guilt and anxiety i felt. it was like a weight lifted off my shoulders; i stopped spending nights laying awake wondering if i would go to hell. i stopped worrying that god hated me for who i was. i stopped constantly fearing that i wasn't really saved like i thought i was. i begged god to take me to heaven for so many years, begged him to keep me from going to hell. but i don't think i ever truly felt like he was there and listening. i never felt the relief and security everyone describes salvation as. i tried, i really did.

there are a lot of things i don't understand about christianity and i don't know that i ever have. if god is all powerful, why did he even create hell? he could've killed satan, snapped him out of existence, but instead he decided to keep him around for when adam inevitably sinned? and on that note, why put the temptation of the tree in the garden in the first place? you can eat anything in the garden except this tree that i literally put there and the guy i decided not to snap out of existence is going to tempt you to eat it so you can bring about the destruction of man? it all feels almost a bit silly when you think about it long enough.

one of the biggest things i don't understand is if jesus died for everyone on earth, why do you have to be christian to go to heaven? jesus died for everyone, but you still go to hell if you don't "accept" that he died for you by following a religion. it makes absolutely zero sense. everyone says god doesn't send people to hell, but he's not exactly not sending them to hell either. he's god, he literally makes the rules; if god didn't want people to go to hell, they wouldn't, whether they were christian or not. it's hard to believe in a loving god who just allows people to die and go to somewhere as terrible as hell.

another huge thing that contributed to me letting go of my faith was learning about what was happening in palestine. i would open social media and see photos of dismembered children, parents carrying their child's remains, people begging for help and aide that they were denied. and then i would go to church, and hear things like "pray for israel." a guest preacher talked about visiting israel; he said he went around the whole country and didn't see any damage, but they weren't allowed to step foot into gaza. how do you not understand what that means? how can you see that with your own eyes and still support that horrid state? if being christian means i have to support the genocide of the palestinian people, i want nothing to do with it.

honestly, i'm surprised it's taken me so long to realize i don't believe in christianity anymore. i've identified as a therian since i was fifteen. my belief in therianthropy includes past lives and shared souls; far from the beliefs of a christian. i genuinely believe that i was an animal, multiple animals actually, in a past life. i believe i share a soul with these animals, that my soul is fragmented and split into human, cat, wolf, and ocelot; never in my life have i felt fully human. christians don't tend to believe in reincarnation or split souls... i'd say it's fair to assume none of them do. except teenaged me, apparently.

i feel like this post is getting too long. i've been writing for over an hour. my final thought is that i can only hope i won't have to explain all of this to my mother, that she'll accept that we don't share the same beliefs and won't try and force her religion onto me anymore than she has since i was a child going to sunday school. i would never try and convert her to atheism; i would like to think she would extend me the same grace. i hope she doesn't truly believe it's the internet or social media that has changed my mind, and that she trusts that i'm smart enough to come to my own conclusions on the world and decide what i believe without blindly following my family's. most of what has contributed to my loss of faith has been things i've heard and been taught while sitting in a church pew, not what i've read online.

i ended up getting most of the things i talked about doing today done; i ate nuggets and dragon fruit for lunch, read two chapters of sunrise on the reaping, colored a page in my coloring book, and worked on my site for a bit. i didn't end up getting both pages done because staring at websites full of bright colors and flashing pixels in order to gather blinkies and stamps understandably put a lot of strain on my eyes, and i decided i was done for the day and took a little nap instead of starting on my shrines page. i didn't put the bulletin board up either because my dad ended up coming home from his work trip today and i really hate doing things like that with him in the house for some reason T^T maybe i'll do it tomorrow, we'll see.

i'm not sure how to segway into the next part of this (side note quackity just went live and i got distracted watching for 20 minutes) so uh. i'm just gonna jump in.

i'm very active on social media. too active, really. i have multiple accounts on instagram and twitter, i get stuck in the endless scroll of reddit at least once a day, and i have more fan accounts than one person needs. i like social media to an extent; i love being able to engage with other fans of the things i like and being able to share parts of myself online that i'm not able to safely express in real life. but i just really hate... the social media side of things. the algorithm that seems to know exactly how to keep me scrolling for hours at a time, the rampant alt-right ideology that haunts these apps like a toxic fungus, the addictive numbers game of it all... not to mention the absolutely horrendous people who own and run these apps. i spend 8+ hours a day on my phone most days, and i'm almost certain 99% of that screentime would disappear if i didn't have social media.

but i feel like i almost have to have social media, in a way. it's how i engage with fandoms, as mentioned above; sure, there are online fandom spaces outside of social media if you look hard enough, but those spaces are usually very small, and the smaller or newer the fandom, the less likely you are to easily find them outside of twitter if you find them at all. i have tumblr, but i struggle to stay active there despite it being my "social media" of choice back in 2018-2020. i feel like i need to have a separate blog for every single interest i have, which adds up quickly and i find myself just as obsessively trying to stay on top of things as i do with any other regular social media app. tumblr also, at least in the fandom spaces i'm in, tends to prioritize creativity over anything else. which is great, but it can be hard to get engagement or do anything besides reblog other people's posts if you don't make art, edits, or gifs.

on twitter, i spend a lot of time just... talking. saying whatever is on my mind, mindlessly livetweeting streams and videos, etc. i haven't really found another place online where both i feel comfortable doing that and it feels like a socially acceptable thing to do. blogging is, in a way, just saying what's on my mind, but it's much different than opening twitter and going "i'm going to listen to this album later" or "i really want this new tamagotchi." there's an argument to be made that i... don't have to do that, of course. that that's just another way of social media frying my brain by making me feel like i need to say every word that comes into my head. and you would be right. i don't even know how to make a counter argument to that. but it affects my hesitance to leave the platform all the same.

another thing that hinders me from deleting all social media is that i'm a fan of a lot of content creators and musicians who use social media to announce projects and music / tours. it's hard to be a fan of things like that nowadays without being on twitter or instagram if you want to know... well, anything that's going on ever. if i didn't have twitter, i wouldn't have known waterparks was touring at all, let alone found the presale code that allowed me to buy tickets on monday.

overall, fandom is such a big part of my life, and unfortunately, social media is a big part of fandom. obviously, it is possible to be a fan of things without social media, even in today's age of apps running our lives. but it can be difficult, and can lead to missing out, especially if you want to meet and engage with other fans like i very much do. i love meeting other people who have the same interests as me, who hold the same level of love and dedication to the things i adore. i just wish i could do it without all the other junk that comes with social media.

this really wasn't supposed to be so centered around fandom, but i suppose it makes sense it would take that direction considering that's what most of my social media usage revolves around. i'm not sure why i wrote all this or what it's supposed to say and mean. i just had thoughts i desperately needed to get out.
