another little check-in
Oct. 6th, 2026 01:52 pmi'm thinking about slowly coming back to blogging, but instead of doing every other day posts just talking about all the things i did in those two days, i prefer to just pop in every once in a while and yap for a bit about what i've been up to. i enjoyed doing the every other day schedule while i was doing it, but it does take a bit of time out of my day and can get repetitive and probably very boring to read when i'm not doing much.
anyway, now onto what i've been up to since my last post! to start, i want to mention that i'm officially over two weeks clean from ai usage! to be exact, tonight will be seventeen days. i'm very proud of myself and i really think this might finally be the time i beat this addiction for good. i haven't been having many urges at all, i had one yesterday but it was very easy to ignore. even when i'm awake half the night i don't feel like i need to fill my time with talking to chatbots, i'm so happy and i can only hope it continues this way and i never use ai again.
what i've been filling my time with instead of ai is reading. since my last post, here's all the books i've finished: role model by rachel reid (which i mentioned in said post), the long game by rachel reid, everything i never told you by celeste ng, and the girl on the train by paula hawkins. i'm currently reading julie chan is dead by liann zhang. finishing four books in a week and a half is really good compared to my typical reading speed x3 i don't know if i mentioned this before, but my reading goal for this year was 30 books. i'm currently reading book 22, so unless i fall into a month or longer reading slump, i think it's pretty safe to say i'll be reaching my goal! i'm very proud of that because a week or so ago i probably would've said i didn't think it was going to happen; storygraph was telling me i was five books behind schedule, and i was taking weeks to get through one book. now i'm reading for hours every day and speeding through books in 2-3 days! i didn't realize how much time i was wasting on things like ai and social media until i cut them out and replaced them with reading. i truly love reading so much, and i love having an ereader to make reading easier and free <3
speaking of social media, i'm still avoiding that. i did make a new tumblr account so i could make myself a vent blog because i felt like i was going crazy with nowhere to put all my thoughts and didn't want to dump everything onto my friends, but i haven't used it in a few days. it is very nice to have a place separate from all of my typical friends and mutuals who follow me pretty much everywhere. i can talk and complain without worrying about it coming off as guilt tripping or attention seeking. it's kind of like a public diary in a way x3 besides that and reddit though, i haven't been really touching social media at all, and i feel like it's been really good for me. i plan to probably come back to twitter and tumblr around mid-october, but hopefully i won't be as chronically online as i was before deactivating.
oh, i've also been trying to get back into watching movies and tv. i'm currently 4/6 episodes through the heated rivalry tv show, and i watched backrooms with my mom the other day. i'm enjoying heated rivalry, although i have seen more Bare Man Butt than i want to see while watching tv >_< i didn't read scott and kip's book, but i did enjoy their episode, they're cute together :3 backrooms i enjoyed as well! i gave it 4.5 stars on letterboxd, which seems to be a less popular opinion; but i thought it was really cool and effectively spooky without relying on jumpscares or gore, and that's something i can always appreciate as someone who isn't a big fan of that stuff. i especially liked the set and prop designs and thought it had some super cool shots that articulated the "liminal space" feeling really well. i plan to finish heated rivalry today, and i have a few movies i want to watch soon; the next one i watch will probably be obsession. i didn't see obsession while it was in cinemas because i was told i should avoid it due to the pretty consistent mention of bear's dead cat. i'm very sensitive to cat pain and death, as cats are my biggest special interest. but i just feel like everyone else in the entire world has seen this movie and i feel like i'm missing out on something really good T^T i have been told now though that the cat is pretty clearly fake so it shouldn't be too bad, plus i read a book with a pretty violent cat death scene and i can't imagine this movie or any movie could be more traumatizing than that...
i don't think i have anything else really to talk about. overall i've just been trying to stay off social media / my phone in general and spend more time doing things i enjoy. i feel much better mentally than i did a few weeks ago, and hopefully that trend continues. i don't know when my next post will be, probably just whenever i feel like popping in again :3
